Rejuvenate in South Korea

South Korea holds a special place in my heart, and it always will. This country taught me so much, and in so many ways it molded me into who I am today. I always dreamed of living abroad, and South Korea was the first country that I lived in that wasn’t the USA.

I moved to South Korea to teach English in February of 2021, which was still the height of the pandemic. I moved there with my partner and we found jobs at the same school teaching English to 3 and 4 year olds! That experience was enlightening – we both learned that while we loved kids and living abroad, we didn’t want to be teachers forever.

South Korea is also the country that I got sober in! I decided to get sober 3 months into living in Korea, and the task seemed daunting. However, it ended up being the absolute greatest place to recover. I found such solace in traditional Korean culture – the country nourished me when I needed it most.

South Korea has low, rolling mountains weaving through the entire country. In each and every city you visit, you’ll find lush mountains to hike and explore. You will also find the most colorful and intricate Buddhist temples in the mountains and along coastlines. My favorite activity in Korea was hiking to a temple!

Whether you are hiking mountains, exploring ancient gates and temples, or relaxing in a traditional bath house – South Korea has so much to offer those looking for a rejuvenating experience.
